PRESSURE 4-5 CONFIRMED FOR MTV2 PRESENTS TOUR WHICH FOLLOWS HEADLINING TOUR AND DATES WITH LIT AS NEW SINGLE & VIDEO “MELT ME DOWN” ARE RELEASED
PRESSURE 4-5 are set to hit the road again in support of their DreamWorks Records debut BURNING THE PROCESS. After a 14-city headlining club tour kicking off March 31 at the Troubadour in Los Angeles and dates with Lit,PRESSURE 4-5 will embark on an MTV2 Presents Tour with Apex Theory and Lostprophets. PRESSURE 4-5 will rotate the headlining slot with both bands and use their expanded set to preview a few songs they’ve been writing over the past few months.
These tour dates coincide with the release of the album’s new single and video “Melt Me Down,” an anthemic declaration of independence. Album Network (March 1, 2002) has already praised the track–the follow-up to their Active Rock single “Beat the World”–as a “riff-fueled, energetic, punk-flavored tune with major hit potential.” The review added: “The lyrics are an actual attempt to examine life from a more worldly, mature perspective.”
Vocalist and songwriter ADAM RICH calls “Melt Me Down” an affirmation of his own beliefs. “It incorporates the universal theme of having the freedom to express yourself however you want. Your parents and your teachers have an effect on you and shape who you are as a person,” he explains. “The song is about realizing that you don’t have to go along with the norm. You’re a free individual. You can do whatever you want to do and be whoever you want to be. In high school, I played sports and I had a band. I lived the way I wanted to live, not on anybody else’s terms. I tried to have friends from all different backgrounds and creeds and not limit myself in that sense. I think it’s sad when people feel they have to be part of a group to be happy. They can’t just be comfortable with who they are.” RICH sings in “Melt Me Down”:
“Born into fire
No given shape no
Sense of a beaten road
Trained by our voices
Given one choice it’s
Break the shell and move ahead
Or eighteen dead and decided”
–“Melt Me Down”
The song is typical of PRESSURE 4-5, who sing about the everyday occurrences and dilemmas that they feel really matter–work, faith, friends, love–and the need for resilience in the face of overwhelming challenges. In Revolver (January/February 2002), writer Gary Graff praised BURNING THE PROCESS, as “a powerful debut, certainly a meaty dish that’s served with a minimum of garnishÉfree of raps, loops and samples” with songs that “seldom creep above the three-minute mark.” “It’s not just that Pressure’s songs have meaning,” states Mike Magnuson in Metal Edge (Spring 2002) “but that they are more lyrical and less deliberate in approaching that meaning.”
Since the release of BURNING THE PROCESS, PRESSURE 4-5 have toured with Alien Ant Farm and Hoobastank. They were also on last summer’s Ozzfest and have shared stages with A Perfect Circle, Papa Roach and Incubus, among others. Touring will remain the PRESSURE 4-5 m.o. for the foreseeable future. As RICH explained to Metal Edge, “We’re a lot more intent on building a real fan base through touring than we are on becoming an overnight success.”
