PRINCE OF DARKNESS WELCOMES THE DAYLIGHT
AT OZZFEST THIS SUMMER;
ANNOUNCES THAT HE’LL PERFORM ON THE SECOND STAGE AT TWO ADDITIONAL OZZFEST STOPS
“Osbourne looked and sounded like he'd emerged from the fabled fountain of youth and stepped onstage a good 30 years younger.”
–Paul Gargano, Hollywood Reporter (7/10/06), review of OZZY’s second stage performance 7/8 at the Los Angeles stop at the Hyundai Pavilion of Glen Helen.
Seems the daylight is agreeing with the Prince of Darkness.
OZZY OSBOURNE has just announced that he’ll now perform on OZZfest’s down-and-dirty second stage instead of the main stage at two more shows this summer: Chicago (Sunday, July 16, First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre) and Bristow, VA (Sunday, August 6, Nissan Pavillion). Driven by a desire to keep things interesting and exciting for the fans, OZZY previously announced he’d be headlining the festival’s second stage at seven shows. This marks the first time in the festival’s 11-year history that OZZY is performing in the afternoon on the second stage, creating a new communion with his fans on the front lines.
Also look for OZZY to headline his only solo concert of 2006, and it’s set for July 14 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Kansas City , KS with Black Label Society and fellow OZZfest bands Atreyu and Unearth. OZZY has recently been writing songs for an upcoming solo album with his longtime guitarist ZAKK WYLDE, who also fronts Black Label Society. The album’s release date is TBA.
For each of the last ten years, OZZfest’s founder and namesake has headlined the main stage of the summer’s premiere touring concert festival as a solo artist or with Black Sabbath. This summer’s OZZfest shows—where he’s headlining the main stage at five shows and headline the second stage at nine shows—mark OZZY’s first solo performances in three years.
OZZfest, cited as “one of rock’s biggest juggernauts” in the cover feature of Sunday's New York Times' Arts and Leisure section (6/25/06), boasts a main stage lineup that features headliner SYSTEM OF A DOWN and such formidable artists as DISTURBED, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, HATEBREED, LACUNA COIL and power metal phenomenon DRAGONFORCE. It’s important to note that SYSTEM OF A DOWN, DISTURBED, HATEBREED and LACUNA COIL all started out in OZZfest’s trenches on the second stage and subsequently won the approval of the festival’s discerning followers.
This year’s second stage will be headlined by the Zakk Wylde-led BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, with such high-decibel bands as ATREYU, UNEARTH, BLEEDING THROUGH, NORMA JEAN, A LIFE ONCE LOST, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, THE RED CHORD, FULL BLOWN CHAOS, WALLS OF JERICHO, ALL THAT REMAINS, BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME and BAD ACID TRIP.
Here are some other critical soundbites of OZZY’s performances at this year’s OZZfest:
“At 57, the Ozzman still cometh!” Shawn Telford, Seattle Post Intelligencer (6/30/06), review of OZZY’s main stage performance 6/29 at the Seattle stop at the White River Amphitheatre.
“The Prince of Darkness was back…with a fan-pleasing set that focused on post-Sabbath numbers ‘I Don’t Know,’ ‘Mr. Crowley’ and ‘Flying High Again.’” Ernest A. Jasmin, Tacoma News Tribune (6/30/06), review of OZZY’s main stage performance 6/29 at the Seattle stop at the White River Amphitheatre.
