RIVER CITY REBELS
JUMP-START SIX-WEEK U.S. TOUR
IN SUPPORT OF NEWLY RELEASED ‘HATE TO BE LOVED’ CD
WITH SPECIAL SHOW SUPPORTING
THE NEW YORK DOLLS
Building on their success of this summer’s Vans Warped Tour, RIVER CITY REBELS will launch a six-week U.S. trek of headlining dates on October 31. The band jump-started their national tour with a special show opening for the New York Dolls October 2 in Anaheim, CA. RIVER CITY REBELS recorded their newly released HATE TO BE LOVED CD (Victory Records) with the Dolls’ own Sylvain Sylvain.
Late last month, rabid fans packed RIVER CITY REBELS’ sold-out headlining record release gig at The Continental in New York. The chaos was captured in the band’s video for their first single “Glitter And Gold,” set for release in late October. The excitement surrounding HATE TO BE LOVED is also building in the media. Here are some early critical soundbites:
“…River City Rebels are the real deal…The Rebels revel in rocking without inhibition, a glam-bam-thank-you slam of dirty guitars and dirty minds. The result is one great rock’n’roll record.”
–Wayne Robins, Billboard, October 9, 2004
“You’ve got to give the River City Rebels credit for virtually re-creating the grit (and wit) of punk rock’s golden age…Hate to be Loved, is built around filthy guitar licks and raw energy straight from the gutter…it reminds us of why punk was so cool in first place…”
–Travis McGee, Revolver, November 2004
“…they’ve got the balls to put their mouths where their roots have been.”
–Paul Raggity, Rock Sound (UK), October 2004
“The River City Rebels are a rare oddity–a genuinely dangerous rock’n’roll band!…a soundtrack for an alcohol and drug-fueled low-rent Saturday night, it’s perfect.”
–BB Rambone, PunkMusic.com, September 28, 2004
“A scorching, eye-catching band, their stage prowess matched the electrified music…On the opening cut ‘Hurt Like I Do,’ the Rebels lower the volume, exposing a deeper, even rawer side. That devilish horn section is still intact, inciting near-riots in almost every song. This is a band that’s not afraid to try something different, to take chances. Doing that, you’re either going to make a big exciting noise, or fall flat on your face. – RCR hasn’t fallen yet!”
–Phil Rainone, Jersey Beat, Issue 75
“…The Rebels’ new disc Hate to Be Loved confirms their street cred. Their ballsy swagger and dirtbag romanticism are winning them a loyal following.”
–Casey Rea, Seven Days (Burlington, VT), September 23, 2004
“They just play what they like: Gloriously trashy, attitude-laced, horn-heavy, pumped-up rock and roll that’s more old school than ’04, reflecting such influences as the Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart’s Faces, Iggy Pop and the Stooges, New York Dolls, T-Rex, and Guns ‘n Roses.”
–Dave Richards, Erie Times-News (Erie, PA), September 23, 2004
“…one of the hardest working bands performing today…HATE TO BE LOVED deserves to be heard live, its meant to be played that way with all its rawness showing through…If you want punk its there, if you want glam you got it, if you want blues you have that too, and you even have the acoustic number to end it all on a sad, heartfelt but honest note…Luckily for us there’s still a band out there that still understands what rock n roll was and should be, and for them…still is.”
–Hicks, PunkMusic.com, September 04
HATE TO BE LOVED also features indie-crooner Jesse Malin–who described the CD as “a modern day punk rock take on Exile on Main Street.” Also appearing on the album: Rancid studio-weapon and Slackers frontman Vic Ruggerio on organs as well as Rolling Stones back-up singer Lisa Fischer.
