ROBBIE RIVERA SET TO RELEASE ‘DO YOU WANT MORE,’
HIS DEBUT ARTIST ALBUM ON ULTRA RECORDS AUGUST 24
For his debut artist album due out August 24 on Ultra Records, Miami-based producer/remixer/DJ/label owner ROBBIE RIVERA bears a knowing prediction with the title DO YOU WANT MORE. Recorded over the past year in Barcelona, Spain, while listening to heavy doses of Basement Jaxx, Underworld and Faithless, Robbie Rivera fed off these artists to create a multi-faceted, vocal-heavy album that brings together house, pop, reggae, rock and electro.
It all started to come together in early 2003 when Robbie Rivera hooked up with lyricist Ned Bigham who’s written for DB Boulevard, Jean-Jacques Smoothie and Timo Maas. The first completed song which will serve as the first US single (with remixes by Wally Lopez) is “Which Way You’re Going,” inspired by Coldplay’s hit “Clocks.” “I wanted to do something like Coldplay, but with a very U2 vibe,” says Rivera. “I also wanted the lyrics to be very British, because I love Morrissey and the Underworld-type voice.” The result is a dance/pop masterpiece with a killer melody and uplifting vocals from new singer Elliott John.
Other collaborators on Do You Want More include writer/producer Rob Davis (Kylie Minogue), first time vocalists Lizzie Patterson (“All About You”) and Kate Hodges (“Degenerate,” “Games People Play,” “Blah Blah Blah”), ragga master Karli Owli (“Do You Want More,” “Uptown Girls”) and Justine Suissa–the voice on Armin van Buuren’s smash “Burned With Desire”–on the bonus track “Girlfriend” by Robbie Rivera featuring Keylime.
Robbie Rivera’s big break came in the year 2000 with the release of the single “Bang” which hit #1 on every U.K. dance chart and was supported by taste-making radio DJs including Judge Jules and Pete Tong. The track also made it on to every respected dance compilation, was used frequently during the 2000 Sydney Olympics and was so popular that it even gave Rivera some face time on Top Of The Pops and MTV.
Now a bona fide dance-floor star, Rivera has remixed a who’s who of international artists including Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham, Brandy, Faithless, Felix Da Housecat, Funky Green Dogs, Madonna, Ricky Martin, Sinead O’Connor, Pink, Puretone, RES, Harry Romero, Santana and Sonique. His DJ diary marks destinations all around the world including New York, Miami, Ibiza, Barcelona, London, France, Italy, Moscow, Budapest, Berlin, Dublin and Amsterdam as frequent spots; and he also recently became the first International DJ to play in Albania. In 2003, Robbie Rivera was voted ‘Best Breakthrough DJ’ and ‘Best House Music Remixer’ by Remix magazine. This year, Robbie was nominated for a ‘Best Producer’ award by DanceStar USA.
So what’s next for Robbie Rivera? He’s currently spending his summer in Barcelona, Spain and will DJ in Ibiza and around the Mediterranean in support of Do You Want More.
