WREAK MERRY MAYHEM ON FALL TOUR WITH OZZY OSBOURNE
AND ROB ZOMBIE
“HALO” CHARTS IN TOP 20 AT ACTIVE ROCK RADIO
As SOiL impact rock radio with their single “Halo,” the group have been tapped to open for Ozzy Osbourne and Rob Zombie on this fall’s “Merry Mayhem Tour.” Kicking off October 31 in Tucson, AZ, SOiL will tour arenas throughout the Midwest and South before winding down with a special hometown date in Chicago on December 6. The band geared up for this trek with a series of radio and club shows, following a week’s worth of dates with Motorhead.
Taken from their J Records debut SCARS, “Halo” is already a Top 20 hit at active rock radio, while the video can be seen on MTV and MTV2. “I sat down and wrote a song about trying to make a life out of what I do,” says frontman RYAN McCOMBS, “and that wound up being the song that’s done quite a bit for us.”
Produced by Johnny K. (Disturbed, Machine Head) and mixed by Kevin Shirley (Aerosmith, Iron Maiden), SCARS captures the ferocity of the band’s live show as well as a timeless style that bassist TIM KING refers to as “heaviness with classic elements.”
SOiL‘s sound is a mix of high-velocity riffing and subtle techno effects combined with the vivid demon-bashing lyrics and rapid-fire vocal delivery of a frontman who brings new meaning to the word “committed.” Overall, the effect is unsettling–the lyrics are rife with images of personal anguish–but ultimately galvanizing in the way RYAN prevails over the forces that conspire against him. You cheer him on when, in “New Faith,” he sings, “Everybody’s gotta rock right out of here/See the old faith, feel the new faith.”
CMJ Weekly calls the album–which debuted at #10 on Billboard’s “Heatseekers” chart–“untainted rock ‘n’ roll” (9/17/01), while Greg Sorrels of Album Network notes: “Scars is 13 tracks of in-your-face aggro riff-rock that pummels you from beginning to end. Tight, catchy tunes with tons of attitude…” (9/7/01).
For McCOMBS, KING, drummer TOM SCHOFIELD and guitarists ADAM ZADEL and SHAUN GLASS, the album’s focused aggression and unflinching honesty are a natural by-product of their upbringing. “All of my lyrics come from things I’ve experienced,” reveals McCOMBS. “And it’s always been a joke that I’ve never written a happy song. But that’s just the reality of the life I’ve lived. The title embodies the whole album: Each song is an individual mental or emotional scar I’ve endured.”
