SOUTH POSTPONES U.S. TOUR PLANS
SOUTH guitarist Jamie McDonald has broken his wrist while playing football on Sunday, September 7. Jamie was later admitted to hospital for emergency surgery, and has been advised not to play guitar for the next 8 to 10 weeks as he recovers.
Consequently, the British group’s forthcoming American fall tour has been postponed. The band will announce dates as soon as Jamie’s condition is updated.
SOUTH’s much-anticipated second album With The Tides will be released September 23. The first single from the album “Loosen Your Hold” is out now in the U.K. through Double Dragon Music and is currently making waves at radio in the U.S. at stations like KCRW in Los Angeles, Q101 in Chicago and Live 105 in San Francisco.
Meanwhile, With The Tides is generating early critical raves from the press:
”South make a strong claim to the British music throne that’s been dusty since the days when Stone Roses held court.”
–Lily Moeyari, NYLON, September 2003
“The sweeping, electro-tinged rock anthems on With The Tides, the British trio South’s second CD, are anchored to propulsive grooves but take unexpected detours – such as the harpsichords and banjos that grace the standout track ‘Loosen Your Hold’.”
–Carleen Bauer, ELLE, August 2003
“…a lush collection of raw, cinematic songs, crafted with laser-guided precision’.”
–Emma Warren, THE FADER, Fall 2003
“Though With The Tides is undoubtedely the document of a band in transition, it gracefully lacks the awkwardness that usually marks the cost of evolution. Instead, it’s our pleasure to be along for the ride…”
–Nevin Martell, FILTER, September/October 2003
“A blend of U2’s big-sky grandeur and Coldplay’s warm-hearted romanticism — with just a touch of Radiohead’s art-school smarts — South could follow such contemporaries up the charts and into the arenas. “
–Cary Darling, MIAMI HERALD, August 3, 2003
“South, a London-based three-piece, takes a forceful approach to creating their dreamy, intellectual sound. Vocalist/bassist Joel Cadbury, guitarist Jamie McDonald, and drummer Brett Shaw make an impression on With the Tides by roughing up elegant rock sensibilities with a raw edge that can’t be faked. The results are rhythmic, emotional, and constantly surprising…one of the best albums of the year.”
–David Weiss, DRUM!, September/October 2003
