SPLENDER frontman WAYMON BOONE thwarted a robbery in downtown Los Angeles this past weekend while shooting the video for “Save It For Later,” their newly released single from the melodic rockers’ upcoming second album, TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, due September 3 on J Records. On a sidestreet off Alameda Avenue, a street person slipped onto the set, grabbed a bag belonging to the production crew and ran off with it. WAYMON noticed the theft while shooting a take that had him jumping from a truck–but instead of completing the scene, he chased the young man for a block, cornered him in an alley, subdued him and convinced him to return the bag. “I told him, ‘Be cool. You’d rather deal with me than the police.'” said WAYMON. “He looked pretty frail, so I waited for him to catch his breath. I took back the bag and then I talked to him for a few minutes. I gave him a couple of dollars to get something to eat.” Meanwhile, the video is being directed by Gregory Dark, noted for such clips as Linkin Park’s “One Step Closer,” Sublime’s MTV/VMA-winning “Wrong Way,” Orgy’s MTV/VMA-nominated “Blue Monday,” Staind’s “Mudshuvel” and Counting Crows’ “Hanging Around.” It’ll hit airwaves in late August.
