STRUNG OUT will release their fourth full-length album AN AMERICAN PARADOX April 23 on Fat Wreck Chords as both a CD and LP. Produced by the band and engineered and mixed by Donnell Cameron (Bad Religion, NOFX, Lagwagon), AN AMERICAN PARADOX combines the group’s fast So-Cal style punk and thick metal-influenced guitars with powerful drumming and tight, melodic vocals. STRUNG OUT, whose single “Cemetery” will go to radio March 26, are planning a tour that will run May 15 through June 30.
Since the early ’90s, Southern California-based STRUNG OUT—JASON CRUZ (vocals), ROB RAMOS (guitars), JORDAN BURNS (drums), JAKE KILEY (guitars) and CHRIS AIKEN (bass)–have created significant and compelling music that rallies emotional energy into songs that are both aggressive and melodic. Years of relentless touring with Pennywise, the Offspring, Bad Religion, NOFX, Papa Roach and the Vans Warped Tour have earned the group critical praise and a loyal fanbase around the world. STRUNG OUT have also previously released 1994’s Another Day in Paradise, 1996’s Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues and 1998’s Twisted by Design on Fat Wreck Chords.
Marking the band’s first album in four years, AMERICAN PARADOX features 13 captivating tracks, beginning with the rapid-fire “Velvet Alley” and closing with the lead single “Cemetery.” The song, which builds layers of raw guitars and passionate vocals over a driving rhythm section, is about the dark and desperate side of the City of Angels. In the first verse, JASON sings: “An electric concrete fantasy where the billboards keep on warning me/That if I don’t keep on movin’ I’ll get stuck in this place/Where nobody gets out alive/The dead all came to play in this metropolitan decay/A cemetery called Los Angeles.”
The furious “Kill Your Scene” challenges people to strip away false anger and depression to just be who they are: “You wear your sadness well, it fits the color of your world/Though you have nothing to complain about there’s always something wrongÉShow yourself and kill your scene, you are your worst enemy/Only doin’what you do ‘cuz you know someone is there to clap a hand.”
Clocking in under two minutes, “Lubricating the Revolution” balances scorching beats with powerful guitar flourishes and the lines: “I’ll rent a revolution and sell my soul to the cause as a million footsteps march in my parade/Then I’ll buy the moon a bomb and aim it straight at number one/’Cuz nobody really wants a revolution to come.”
As always, fans should log onto the band’s official website www.strung-out.com , which has received over one million hits, for all the latest in STRUNG OUT news and tour information.
