SUCCESS OF THE SECOND ANNUAL "FAMILY VALUES TOUR"
SURPASSES EXPECTATIONS AS PLANS BEGIN
FOR ITS RETURN NEXT YEAR;
LIVE ALBUM AND HOME VIDEO OF 1999 OUTING
SET FOR RELEASE ON INTERSCOPE RECORDS IN SPRING 2000
Industry nay-sayers predicted that it was going to be a disaster, coming on the heels of Woodstock.
But year two of "The Family Values Tour"–the brainchild of KORN, their management company The Firm, and Metropolitan Entertainment–was a phenomenal success, with no incidents or arrests. The fans proved the cynics wrong (again). And cynics everywhere will be disappointed to learn that plans are already underway for the third annual "Family Values Tour," set to roll out in the fall of 2000 (acts and dates are TBA).
1999's line-up of the Sega(R) Dreamcast (TM) & ARTISTdirect.com Present The Family Values Tour featured headliners Limp Bizkit, along with Filter, The Crystal Method, Primus, Staind, Mobb Deep, Ja Rule, and Method Man & Redman. Korn also made surprise appearances at a few dates.
The triumph that was "The Family Values Tour" can be experienced all over again via the upcoming live "Family Values" disc, due out this spring on Interscope, which will be accompanied by a long-form home video. Look for live performances by "The Family Values" artists. "Besides featuring some incredible live performance, we're going to make sure that the CD and home video have some material that you can't get anywhere else–like Limp Bizkit doing their cover of Jane's Addiction's 'I Would,'" said Pete Katsis, VP of A&R at The Firm. Last year, the debut outing of "The Family Values Tour" spawned a gold-certified live album on Epic and platinum-certified companion home video on Epic Music Video.
The loud street buzz, thunderous response from fans and classic performances are the elements that propelled this year's "The Family Values Tour." Consisting of 27 dates, it launched September 21 in Pittsburgh and concluded November 1 in Dallas, TX. Over 303,000 attendees came out to experience the tour and it grossed more than $10 million.
Says Jeff Kwatinetz of The Firm: "There were people who told us that the tour was going to train-wreck since it happened right after Woodstock. But those are the same people who really don't understand the fans. Nothing new there."
Says John Scher of Metropolitan Entertainment: "Once again, the fans spoke. FAMILY VALUES has already become a tradition, and it is simple to explain. Extraordinary music, superior production; every night adds up to a great show for everyone."
