SUNDAYRUNNERS
RELEASE THEIR DEBUT ALBUM MARCH 22 ON MACHINE RECORDS;
DEBUT ALBUM GARNERS EARLY CRITICAL ACCLAIM;
BAND IS ADDED TO MOTOR CITY MUSIC CONFERENCE IN APRIL
Chicago’s SUNDAYRUNNERS are poised for a breakthrough with their self-titled, debut album, out March 22 on Machine Records (Redeye distribution). The group–who merge their trademark eclecticism with a pure pop sensibility to arrive at a disarmingly catchy sound–will visit a slew of hometown area radio and TV shows (see schedule below) for their release week. In addition, the band has announced a hometown show for April 14 at The Metro in Chicago.
In other news, SUNDAYRUNNERS have been invited to perform during the Motor City Music Conference in Detroit, April 20-24.
SUNDAYRUNNERS–RANDY DIDERRICH (vocals, guitar), MASON BROWN (guitar, backing vocals), RICK DIDERRICH (bass), DAN REINHOLDT (drums) and AARON GRANT (keyboards, backing vocals)–mix gorgeous melodies with alluringly left-of-center sonic touches that give their songs an emotional tension. One of the album’s songs, “Memories Left At Sea,” was utilized in the February 17 episode of the Fox television show “The O.C.” Their self-produced album’s other highlights include “Lip Biter,” “Elected” and “Evolver.”
Check out some early critical acclaim for SUNDAYRUNNERS:
“SundayRunners’ debut record is driven by sweet alt-melody, big and splashy drums and a host of soaring choruses…SundayRunners draw equally from rising-and-falling Brit-rock, gummy-pop melodies and the advance-and-retreat strategy of golden-age alternative.”
–Jeff Vrabel, BILLBOARD.COM (2/16/05)
“With its airtight grooves and pop-rock harmonies, SundayRunners is a seamlessly savvy work of musical magic. SundayRunners is a perfect example of craft and creativity yielding a cornucopia of polished delights. From the catchy riffs to the bouncy synths, the clever clichés and friendly melodies, SundayRunners stays with you all week long.”
–John Noyd, MAXIMUM INK (March 2005)
“[SundayRunners is]…modern rock with strong pop sensibilities rich with Beatlesque harmonies, pleasant tempos and well-structured dynamics.”
–Tom Lounges, NORTHWEST INDIANA TIMES (Chicago, 2/11/05)
“[SundayRunners] exemplify the variety in the vibrant music being made in the Windy City. The dozen songs on the band’s self-titled Machine Records debut show off the quartet’s knack for crafting pleasing and memorable pop tunes along the lines of ‘Elected,’ ‘Memories Left At Sea,’ ‘Into Your Head,’ ‘Finally,’ ‘Flying Saucers,’ and ‘Floor Toms Fall Away.’ The band is not afraid to reveal a harder rocking side-listen to ‘Everlasting Sun’ and ‘Half My Height.’
–Gregg Shapiro, CHICAGO FREE PRESS (Chicago, 3/9/05)
“SundayRunners’ laid back rock anthems ‘Half My Height,’ ‘Flying Saucers’ and urgent ballads ‘Memories Left At Sea’ and ‘Finally’ are a peculiar alchemy that works. They’ve added some California dreaming to the British alt-rock sound of Coldplay and Snow-Patrol and they’ve got it down to a science. They go twelve-for-twelve with this collection, a dozen pop songs made smooth as silk and built for endurance. This is one cool cruising album that stands up to repeat play and even has mood-transformative powers.”
–Leroy Grey, CAFFEINE (Louisville, March 2005)
“[SundayRunners] melodic pop collides with a sonic mix to produce an original rock-pop sound. ‘1993’ and ‘Floor Toms Fall Away’ have beautiful melodies and harmonies. ‘Finally’ has an original sound, the superb vocals, strong beat and edgy guitars send this number over the top.”
–James Nichols, MUSIC NEWS MAGAZINE (Cincinnati, February 2005)
