THE ANGEL (aka 60 CHANNELS) SOUNDS OFF AT Q&A FOR ‘LET’S
GET FRANK’
AT THE FILM FORUM IN NEW YORK JULY 18
60 CHANNELS: LA WEEKLY MUSIC AWARD NOMINEE FOR ‘BEST DANCE MUSIC ARTIST’
Following the release of her second album Covert Movements (Supa Crucial Recordings/New Line Records) under the 60 CHANNELS moniker, producer/composer/musician/DJ THE ANGEL will be arriving in New York next month to speak on behalf of her music score work for the documentary film Let’s Get Frank during The Film Forum two week run, July 14 – 27. Produced and directed by Bart Everly and executive produced by Jonathan Van Meter, “Let’s Get Frank” depicts the story of U.S. Congressman Barney Frank (D-Mass), one of the nation’s few openly gay politicians.
Along with Congressman Frank and director Everly, THE ANGEL will participate in the Q&A session following the film’s 8:15 pm screening on Sunday, July 18. Details can be found at http://www.filmforum.com/films/letsgetfrank.html. THE ANGEL–whose other film composition credits include Boiler Room, Gridlock’d and Foto-Novelas II: Junkyard Saints–will also perform a DJ set at the event’s after-party the same night at the 203 Lounge (203 Spring St, 212-334-3855) from 10:30 – 11:30 pm.
For Covert Movements, released March 2004, THE ANGEL collaborated with a wide range of players including vocalists Angie Hart, Navigator, Karen Grant, DJ Collage, Rain Phoenix and Monday Michiru, along with Robert Russell (bass), Kevin Herlihy (guitar), Katrisse Buckingham (horns & flute), DJ Drez (djimbay, maracas, turntables) and Louis Russell (guitar sample). Their work as 60 Channels garnered notice in the press:
“…a down-tempo album that articulates its influences surreptitiously, but hits the mark all on its own.”
–M.A., FLAUNT, April 2004
“…14 tracks of autonomy leverage, breaking molds while fusing elements of electronic, dub, drum & bass, and hip-hop rhythms; a talented cast of international vocalists throws down with live and synthetic instrumentation.”
–Ben Quiñones, LA Weekly, March 2004
“Good music cannot always be categorized…This set is perfect for those in need of something out of the ordinary.”
–Rashaun Hall, Billboard, April 3, 2004
“…Covert Movements is thick with musical drama as well as stellar production…”
–Jack Real, URB, April 2004
“Raw emotion is filtered through fine-tuned production…”
–Julia Chan, XLR8R, March 2004
“From down tempo breakbeats to stylish electronica, the Brooklynite-turned-Angeleno, with help from a fine collection of artists, has produced, arranged, engineered and written a more organic blend of musical styles than the saccharine-infested marathon beats you may be used to bingeing on.”
–Tomas Baboo, Atomica, May 2004
The video for “Still Burnin’,” the first single off the album, will be available soon.
In other news, 60 CHANNELS was nominated for an LA Weekly Music Award for “Best Dance Artist.”
