FLYING HIGH AGAIN: "Resurrected Crowes Answer Caw Of The Wild" (Newsday). "Crowes Fly High At Bowery" (New York Post). Those headlines underline just how triumphantly THE BLACK CROWES conquered New York City. The excitement got underway January 11 when the band–one day before the release of their Columbia Records debut album BY YOUR SIDE–performed their current top #3 Billboard "Rock Tracks" hit "Kicking My Heart Around" on the Late Show With David Letterman. From that taping, they rushed over to the Bowery Ballroom, performing a blistering set for a crowd of 500 fans who squeezed into the tiny venue. Among the well-wishers on hand: Cindy Crawford and John McEnroe. The following day, over 2,000 fans lined three blocks in lower Manhattan by the Tower Records store at 4th and Broadway. They all turned up to meet the band which (after arriving in an ambulance) signed copies of BY YOUR SIDE and gave each fan a free ticket to their fans-only show at the 1000-capacity Irving Plaza (originally set for the Bowery Ballroom but moved to Irving Plaza because of overwhelming demand). The other 1,000 fans who couldn't get a ticket to the Irving Plaza show still got to meet the band and were given a free CD sampler with "Kicking My Heart Around" and all the band's #1 charting rock hits since 1990. Because the band wanted to meet all their fans (this was the biggest in-store ever at this Tower Records location), they were late in arriving to Irving Plaza where they quickly soundchecked, opened the doors at 10:00 PM and went onstage at 11:00 PM. The band played over two hours, thanked their fans for sticking by their side, and proceeded to raise the roof. Next up for the band: the launch of their "Souled Out" tour on February 11 in Milwaukee.
