ROBINSON TAKES THE 'HIGHWAY': RICH ROBINSON took time from his long-running guitarist/songwriter gig with THE BLACK CROWES to score his first motion picture, tentatively titled 'Highway,' to be released early next year via New Line Cinema. ROBINSON–who until this point has always written with his brother, vocalist Chris Robinson-composed the soundtrack, performing most of the parts himself, which resulted in a warm, guitar-driven journey through emotions. He addressed the project in a recent Mean Street interview: "I had 40 minutes to score, so I watched the whole movie, and it had 23 scenes that they wanted me to write music for. The way I approached it was like this: I turned it into a whole song so everything has continuity. I did everything-guitar and bass, hurdy-gurdy and dulcimer, and drums on a couple of things. And I had Ed (Harsch, of THE BLACK CROWES) play some keyboards. But I did tons of layers of stuff, so it's really cool." 'Highway' stars Jared Leto and Selma Blair in a story of a playboy poolman to the wives of the rich and infamous who's on the run from mob and falls for a warmhearted ex-hooker along the way. In other news, RICH can be seen on tour with JIMMY PAGE AND THE BLACK CROWES through early October, playing Zeppelin and CROWES classics together onstage in support of their recent release LIVE AT THE GREEK. Meanwhile, THE BLACK CROWES are busy compiling songs for their next studio release which should hit the streets sometime in 2001 on V2 Records. The songs of THE BLACK CROWES-as well as RICH ROBINSON's soundtrack work for 'Highway'-are published by Warner-Chappell Music.
