Enduring 20 years in the music business is not an easy feat, yet electronic music trailblazers THE CRYSTAL METHOD continue to keep their momentum building. This week the duo of Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland released their fifth studio album–the self-titled THE CRYSTAL METHOD–which made its debut at #1 on the iTunes Electronic Album chart.
THE CRYSTAL METHOD marked the occasion with a sold-out live show at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles last night (January 16), performing a selection of their greatest hits and material from the new album. Joining them were players Danny Lohner on bass, Brain on drums and Richard Fortus on guitar along with rapper Ryu of Styles of Beyond/Fort Minor who guested on “Name Of the Game”; Franky Perez on “Born Too Slow,” “Play For Real” and “Difference”; Filter’s Richard Patrick on “Trip Like I Do“; and Dia Frampton on their current single “Over It.”
Next, THE CRYSTAL METHOD will perform a special DJ set as part of SiriusXM’s “Electric Aquarium” series at the SiriusXM studios in New York City on Thursday, January 23. The “Electric Aquarium” will also feature an interview with the duo and SiriusXM host Ben Harvey. The “Electric Aquarium” will air at 9:00 pm ET on SiriusXM’s Electric Area, channel 52, and through the SiriusXM Internet Radio App on smartphones and other connected devices, as well as online at siriusxm.com. SiriusXM’s “Electric Aquarium” series offers in-studio interviews and DJ sets performed by today’s biggest DJs in front of an audience of SiriusXM listeners in SiriusXM’s state of the art, glass enclosed “fish bowl” studio. Previous “Electric Aquariums” have included performances by Afrojack, Pretty Lights, Sander van Doorn, Morgan Page, Kaskade, Krewella and Armin van Buuren. SiriusXM Electric Area features electronic dance music, house, trance, electro and progressive, along with the biggest DJs in the world and is the destination for THE CRYSTAL METHOD’s weekly radio show Community Service. The duo is also confirmed for a club date at Cielo in New York City on that night. Prior to that, THE CRYSTAL METHOD will head to Sundance in Park City, UT tonight for a show at Epic Nightclub followed by a stop at Beta in Denver tomorrow, January 18. Look for an announcement regarding their tour plans for 2014 soon.
On The Crystal Method, THE CRYSTAL METHOD’s KEN JORDAN and SCOTT KIRKLAND explore various directions of electronic music. Guests include LeAnn Rimes, Franky Perez, Nick Thayer and mau5trap artist Le Castle Vania. “The Voice”’s season #2 contestant Dia Frampton (also known as one half of indie duo Meg & Dia) is the featured vocalist on the album’s first single “Over It” impacting radio now.

The Crystal Method in the press:
“While there’s plenty of hissing beats, belching production, squealing-breaks (and) keyboards for modern EDM heads to enjoy …the album is steeped in meticulous club music emphasizing silky grooves and sculptured adrenaline rushes.”
— Annie Zaleski ALTERNATIVE PRESS (Feb)
“Two decades before the United States draped itself in an EDM blanket, The Crystal Method’s Scott Kirkland and Ken D. Jordan self-drew the blueprint for a viable electronic dance music model and built themselves into an exemplar prototype. Now that the rest of the continent has caught up with the duo, The Crystal Method releases its self-titled fifth album, replete with high-wattage guests like LeAnn Rimes and The Voice finalist Dia Frampton (of Meg And Dia) plus collaborations with flashy dance-floor superstars Le Castle Vania and Nick Thayer.”
–Lily Moayeri, AV CLUB (1/14/14)
“Coming off of their 2009 Grammy Award-nominated album Divided By Night, EDM duo The Crystal Method (aka Scott Kirkland and Ken Jordan) cook up another serving of adrenaline rushing beats and artfully crafted soundscapes in their new namesake album.”
–Jessica Wunsch, VIBE (10/8/2013)
“…the new self-titled TCM album is all about going beyond the beyond.”
– Chris Ziegler, LA WEEKLY (1/13/2014)
“…breakbeat rhythms and melodic acid lines with rock and hip-hop brushstrokes. All of that can be heard on Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland’s new self-titled album, their fifth in 20 years. And there’s no loss of enthusiasm two decades in, evidenced by charging stompers ‘Emulator’ and ‘Storm the Castle’ (with Le Castle Vania) and the adventurous, tempo-shifting ‘Dosimeter,’ featuring Nick Thayer, a signee of Skrillex’s OWSLA imprint.”
— Mike Prevatt, LAS VEGAS WEEKLY (1/15/14)
“It’s friggin’ amazing. They’ve still retained a signature TCM sound with rock elements, while pushing the boundaries of electronic music.”
– Deanna Rilling, VEGAS SEVEN (10/29/2013)
“For their fifth studio album, The Crystal Method created a refreshing twist on what most electronic artists are currently producing, using heavy synth and rock elements to blow the minds and speakers of its listeners.”
– Julia Sachs, SLUG MAGAZINE (12/31/2013)
“… The Crystal Method brings 8-bit effects clashing with garage house, glitch and edgy bass.”
–Bryan Reid, THIS SONG IS SICK (1/5/2014)
