ANNOUNCE FALL 2006 TOUR;
NEW YORK CITY SHOW TO BE FILMED BY
LIVE NATION STUDIOS IN HD
Iconic rockers THE CULT have confirmed tour dates for a three-week trek of the U.S., launching October 27 in Dallas and wrapping November 13 in New York City. The multi-platinum band–with founding members IAN ASTBURY on vocals and BILLY DUFFY on guitar, along with drummer JOHN TEMPESTA and bassist CHRIS WYSE–will also bring their “Return To Wild” tour to Mexico, Chile, Argentina and Brazil after the U.S. performances.
The Cult’s New York City show will be filmed in High Definition by Live Nation Studios and is expected to be made available through a variety of portals including mobile telephone and potentially broadband and traditional cable, satellite and broadcast television. “The Cult has been an important partner to us as we documented their last U.S. tour with live recordings which were a huge hit with their fans,” said Live Nation Studios’ Stephen Prendergast. “Live Nation Studios are excited to capture their spectacular live set for a worldwide audience in High Definition.”
The band most recently toured North America earlier this year, with the shows selling out and earning critical praise. David Glessner of the Austin American Statesman said, “The sonic temple opened for worship Sunday when a capacity crowd joined the Cult for a revival of vintage alternative rock and metallic blues swagger…Easily converted any casual listeners into spellbound servants…the crowd popped like pistons (3/14/06),” while Paul Rodgers of L.A. Weekly praised their "…awe-inspiring arsenal of majestic anthems… (3/3/06)”
The Cult rose to fame from the streets of London to become one of rock’s biggest attractions of the mid-80’s and 90’s. Critically acclaimed records and radio hits such as “She Sells Sanctuary,” “Wild Flower,” “Love Removal Machine,” “Edie” and “Fire Woman” propelled the band to arena status. However, the band’s disdain for the “big machine” of the music business has paid off with the allegiance of their hard-core following. The band never sold out or abandoned their core audience. “We never had fans, we have addicts, you either need it or you don’t. You either get it, or you won’t. There is nothing casual about The Cult, we attract pure votaries,” prides Astbury. DUFFY says, “We need to connect with our people. We need to be among them.”
Highlights of the spring’s “Return To Wild” tour included an outdoor performance on ABC-TV’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and headlining shows at several key modern rock festivals. The group also teamed with Instant Live, making all the live recordings of the shows available to fans.
