THE IMPORTANCE OF ‘PERSEVERANCE’:
HATEBREED HIT #1 WITH “I WILL BE HEARD”;
UNIVERSAL RECORDS ALBUM DEBUTS AT #50
AS ‘SMASH YOUR ENEMIES’ HEADLINING TOUR LAUNCHES;
BAND CONFIRMED TO CO-HEADLINE OZZFEST SECOND STAGE
“Now is the time for me to rise to my feet
Wipe the spit from face
Wipe these tears from my eyes”
–“I Will Be Heard”
HATEBREED‘s hotly-tipped PERSEVERANCE album–which hit the street Tuesday, March 26 on Universal Records–is off to a powerful start with a debut at #50 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart. HATEBREED has also been confirmed to co-headline the second stage on this year’s Ozzfest. The first radio track “I Will Be Heard” has also debuted at #1 on FMQB’s Metal chart as well as CMJ’s Loud Rock and Loud Rock Crucial Spins charts. The release ofPERSEVERANCE was intensified with the launch of the band’s headlining “Smash Your Enemies Tour” with Converge. JAMEY JASTA (vocals), SEAN MARTIN (guitar), LOU RICHARDS (guitar), CHRIS BEATTIE (bass) and MATT BYRNE (drums)–kicked off this month-long leg of dates kicked-off on Wednesday, March 27 in their home state of Connecticut. They’ll follow these shows with a run of rescheduled dates with Slayer starting April 30 in San Diego.
When extreme times call for extreme music, extreme music calls for HATEBREED. Described as “groundbreaking, barrier-flattening and revolutionary” by Night Times (Boston, MA; February 11, 2002), PERSEVERANCE is rife with tidal waves of chords; expertly triggered breakneck tempos; and lyrics that are smart/impassioned self-empowerment manifestos, vocally delivered by JASTA with a breathless intensity. Offering hope to millions of kids who’ve inherited societal ills, JASTA sings in the title track: “All your heroes have failed you
Yet you try and prevail
Face your torment and dismantle your doubt
Refuse this legacy of shame and deceit”
–“Perseverance”
“What makes this album a hardcore masterpiece,” elaborated Boston’s Night Times in its aforementioned review, “is its thoroughness and non-stop bombastic raid of metal panic. Showing up all the prideless bands that front-load their albums with listen-worthy tracks, and fill up the rest with meaningless filler, PERSEVERANCE packs a full clip of hardcore with no gaps or weaknesses from start-to-finish.”
