THE RANDIES
SET TO PERFORM HOLLYWOOD SHOW AS
FUNDRAISER FOR THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION ON
WEDNESDAY, MAY 4 AT THE KEY CLUB;
BAND CONFIRMED FOR VANS WARPED TOUR DATES
Los Angeles pop-punks THE RANDIES have announced that their upcoming show on Wednesday, May 4 at the Key Club in Hollywood will benefit the American Heart Association1. "Heart disease is something that has affected us personally," says the band. "And we really wanted to do something to help raise awareness about heart disease and prevention." Admission to the show is free and American Heart Association representatives will be on hand to accept donations.
In other news, THE RANDIES–who are building a buzz for their mix of straight-ahead rock, sweet harmonies and grrrl punk bravado–have announced they will join this summer’s Vans Warped Tour for both the July 4 show in Fresno at SaveMart Center and the July 6 date in Pomona at the Pomona Fairplex.
THE RANDIES–SIENNA DEGOVIA (lead vocals, bass), LAURA CATALDO (guitars, backing vocals), MEGAN McCARTER (guitars, backing vocals) and KELLY CAIRNS (drums)–and their brash debut AT THE FRIENDSHIP MOTOR INN (Elicit Records/MRI) continue to garner praise from the media.
Check out what the critics are saying about THE RANDIES:
"Their debut album, At The Friendship Motor Inn, crisply captures their Happy Days optimism and adroit arrangements, pumped with punky impudence and new-wave smarty-pants charm, but only in concert does the Randies’ unfettered joy translate: guitarist Laura Cataldo’s knowing, in-joke grin; bass-slinging vocalist Sienna DeGovia’s feline, faux-sulky swagger and crystal-meth Chrissie Hynde-isms; and new-ish drummer Kelly Cairns’ delightfully purposeful pounding."
–Paul Rogers, LA WEEKLY, March 4, 2005
"The L.A. quartet delivers its pop punk with a wink and a shredded guitar riff. On their debut At The Friendship Motor Inn, The Randies channel a few decades of punky female-fronted bands, from the Runaways to The Muffs. There are songs about boys, relationships and more boys. And a paean to Kevin Bacon. They pull it off with flair."
–Kevin Bronson, LOS ANGELES TIMES, November 14, 2004
"Creativity and talent flows through the veins of Los Angeles based The Randies, who are touring in support of their At The Friendship Motor In release, the group offers up perky, punk tunes from a girl’s perspective."
–Michelle Mills, PASADENA STAR NEWS, March 4, 2005
"The latest reinvention of the rock n’ roll wheel can be heard through the amps of Southern California foursome, The Randies. The band’s most recent release At The Friendship Motor Inn is a brilliantly produced 12-song effort that captures the band’s bright harmonies and big guitar pop/rock sound. After one listen to At The Friendship Motor Inn, it was nearly impossible not to be swept up in the energy and tongue in cheek vibe of The Randies."
–Dan Brown, WOMANROCK, April 2005
"Best described as power-pop, this is a genuinely fun band, Punk rock like you would have heard back in 1995-fast, fun and without pretention.
—AMP MAGAZINE "American Music Press," April/May 2005
"The Randies have been gaining recognition in the Southern California indie music scene as a band on the rise. Laura Cataldo and Megan McCarter play guitar, with Sienna DeGovia on the bass and Kelly Cairns, the only male in the band, rocks the drums. The band has a kind of harmony and cohesion that is difficult to manufacture. Cairns pounds the drums with gusto and passion while the girls perform like rock stars. They share vocal responsibilities and it’s this vocal interplay that is the most difficult to ignore. Their ability to mesh and mingle lyrically is reminiscent of the Go-Gos. The vocal prowess is not the only similarity between The Randies and the Go-Gos. Their retro-pop-punk-rock is filled with catchy hooks and shredded guitar riffs."
–Lindsay Spinelli, THE VISTA (University of San Diego), March 10, 2005
"It’s jarring to stumble across a band as gifted, sculpted and hard to ignore as The Randies…Most arresting is the vocal interplay between bassist Sienna DeGovia and guitarists Laura Cataldo and Megan McCarter: Beach Boys-and GoGo’s-influenced strands of melody conversing, meshing and overlapping like trains of thought. Aside from their vocal prowess, what saves The Randies from just being another cutesy retro-pop affair is a backbone of punkish Blondie/Runaways panache and a knowing self-confidence in delivery. The guitars are sufficiently strapping, and Kelly Cairns’ unpretentiously appropriate beats land with enough velocity to confirm that, regardless of stylistic nuances, this is a rock band."
–Paul Rogers, LA WEEKLY (live review), November 5, 2004
"The Randies bring their music to another level with a driving, upbeat and melodic sound. They have incorporated elements of country, rock and punk. The group features a unique blend of harmonizing vocals, walls of guitar and loud drums which is reminiscent of the combination of the Runaways and Blondie, The Ramones and the Pixies."
