ON DROP DEAD T-SHIRTS FOR ARTWORK
As TODDLA T (aka Tom Bell) prepares to release WATCH ME DANCE on September 13 via Ninja Tune, the U.K. producer has announced a short tour across North America set to launch at the beginning of fall. The six date trek will take TODDLA across the U.S., including stops in Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles, and Canada with shows in Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver.
With WATCH ME DANCE, his second artist album, TODDLA T has created a dubwise, street-soul masterpiece, a bold step forward. In ensuring it was everything the Sheffield, U.K.-based producer/DJ envisaged it could be, he carefully selected an impressive lineup of friends, peers and musical icons to guest vocal, co-produce, remix and co-write with him on the album. Names include previous collaborator Roots Manuva, fellow DJ, producer and remixer Skream, Ms Dynamite, Ross Orton, Wayne Marshall, Donaeo, Roisin Murphy and Shola Ama, who appears on “Take It Back,” the first offering from the album. The album’s title track “Watch Me Dance” with Roots Manuva is also now available as a digital single and 12” vinyl.
Prior to heading stateside, TODDLA has teamed up with U.K.’s Drop Dead Clothing for a special edition pop-up shop event August 26 at the Drop Dead store on Carnaby Street in London, where TODDLA himself will perform an in-store DJ set. More info here: http://store.iheartdropdead.com/. TODDLA’s recent collaboration with Drop Dead Clothing, founded by Oli Sykes, a fellow Sheffieldian and front man for Bring Me the Horizon, is featured across the artwork for WATCH ME DANCE. Later that night, he’ll host an exclusive Toddla T & Friends album launch event in London’s Corsica Studios. For the event, TODDLA has enlisted some fellow cohorts from WATCH ME DANCE and others to help get the party started, including Roots Manuva, Ricky Ranking, Zed Bias, Shola Ama, Joe 'Hot Chip' Goddard and Raf Daddy as The 2 Bears, Martelo, Terri Walker and Photomachine.
TODDLA T’s debut album Skanky Skanky was released in January 2009, followed by a Fabric live mix album and a lot of requests for his production skills with everyone from Major Lazer to Grandmaster Flash getting in touch. He already has a slew of remixes under his belt (Hot Chip, Gyptian, Gorillaz, Major Lazer) and recently launched his own Girls Music Label which, after only a handful of releases, has already featured productions by British dance music heroes Sticky, Seiji and Roska. He also is the host of BBC Radio 1’s weekly radio show “In New DJs We Trust.”
