SONG JOINS “HOW YOU REMIND ME” IN MAINSTREAM ROCK TOP 10
AS VIDEO DEBUTS AT #1 ON CVC ROCK/ALTERNATIVE CHARTAs they get ready to announce two different legs of a major headlining U.S. tour for the spring, the NICKELBACK explosion is getting louder.
Their now-triple platinum SILVER SIDE UP album continues its reign in the nation’s Top 5, spurred on by the success of twin singles: the #1 pop/rock/modern rock hit “How You Remind Me” and the new “Too Bad,” which is bulleted at #6 and #4 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock track and Active Rock charts, respectively. In fact, both “Too Bad” and “How You Remind Me” are simultaneously charted in the Top 10 of the Mainstream Rock track chart.
The Nigel Dick-directed “Too Bad” video debuted at the #1 spot on the CVC Rock/Alternative chart this week, a distinction signifying the clip’s #1 most added status at a regional level. The emotionally charged song and video–which illuminates the lingering effects of a father abandoning his family–is in rotation on both VH1 and MTV, the latter of which will debut the NICKELBACK “Diary” special on February 6 at 10:30pm ET/PT.
“The response to ‘Too Bad’ has been overwhelming,” said singer/songwriter/guitarist CHAD KROEGER in an entertainment section front cover story in USA Today (1/16/02). “When you touch somebody with your music, it’s verification that you’re doing something right. It was a little difficult to explain to my father why I was telling the world about my life, but he’s a pretty big fan and he knows this is my perspective.”
Fans are also experiencing the intensity of the song “Too Bad” on the band’s in-progress arena tour in Canada, with every date selling out within minutes of going on sale. A DVD of the Edmonton show–with 15,000 wildly enthusiasticNICKELBACK fans on hand–is due out later this year on Roadrunner Records. At both the Edmonton and Calgary shows, NICKELBACK—KROEGER (vocals/guitars), RYAN PEAKE (guitars/vocals), MIKE KROEGER (bass), RYAN VIKEDAL (drums)–were joined onstage by Jerry Cantrell, the ex-Alice In Chains guitarist who’s good friends with the band for a riveting performance of the AIC song “It Ain’t Like That.”
NICKELBACK‘s presence will also be felt on the soundtrack of The Scorpion King with the song “Yanking Out My Heart.” Recorded during the SILVER SIDE UP sessions, the song is only available in the U.S. on the soundtrack album due out on March 26th. The Scorpion King is a spin-off action adventure film based on the Scorpion King character in the extremely successful The Mummy and The Mummy Returns films for Universal.
