TRUTH & SALVAGE CO.
RELEASE ROAD-IS-OUR-HOME VIDEO FOR
“PURE MOUNTAIN ANGEL”
BAND INVITED TO RETURN IN 2011 TO
STAGECOACH: CALIFORNIA’S COUNTRY MUSIC FESTIVAL
“More Than 103,000 Miles…Crossed Mississippi River 21 Times…732 Hotel Rooms…and 312 shows.”
Those are the words that appear onscreen at the outset of “Pure Mountain Angel,” the new video by TRUTH & SALVAGE CO., and they serve to underline the soul-deep, road-is-our-home odyssey of this critically hailed band that possesses “everything you need for a classic-rock party: muscular treble guitar, Hammond organ and four singer-songwriters harmonizing…” (David Fricke, Rolling Stone, June 2010). They’ve also been described as “a freight train ride down the Route 66 of American music” (Sacramento Press, 9/22/10).
Directed by John Vanover, the video for the newly released single “Pure Mountain Angel” follows the six-piece band around Los Angeles and across the country, which they traverse in their trusty white van. They stop off at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver (where they recently opened for Gov’t Mule), jump into the water of a swimming hole (Santa Rosa, New Mexico), meet up with soldiers (in Iraq), perform in a city park (in Asheville, NC), and more as they log countless miles on the highway in the spirit of the song’s drifter protagonist. “Pure Mountain Angel”–taken from the group’s self-titled, Chris Robinson-produced debut album, released in May on Silver Arrow/Megaforce Records–is TRUTH & SALVAGE CO’s signature song. Featuring the band–Scott Kinnebrew, vocals/guitars; Tim Jones, vocals/guitars; Bill “Smitty” Smith, vocals/drums; Walker Young, vocals/keys; Joe Edel, bass; and Adam Grace, keys–singing a cappella over gentle piano before they all kick into high gear, it has become their coda every night on tour. It was also the tune they performed for their national television debut on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” this past August. In a recent “Fox News Channel” feature segment on the band, Kinnebrew said that “Pure Mountain Angel” has “become our theme song. It’s the message of getting home back alive and doing this as long as we can.”
Notably, TRUTH & SALVAGE CO. have been invited back to perform at the 2011 Stagecoach: California’s Country Music Festival (April 30 and May 1), the Indio, CA festival which they played in 2010. Meanwhile, the group will head back out on the road opening for The Black Crowes next month for gigs in Reno (12/5, Knitting Factory), Las Vegas (12/10, The Joint) and Los Angeles (12/11, the Palladium). See their tour dates listed below.
TRUTH & SALVAGE COhail from all around the country (including Atlanta, New Orleans, Indianapolis, Tupelo, Indianapolis and Wellston, OH) but met up in Asheville, North Carolina where they were playing in various like-minded bands before relocating to Los Angeles and starting the band.
A potent live act who’ve toured with The Black Crowes and the Avett Brothers, TRUTH & SALVAGE CO. were cited as a “Top 10 Band To Watch This Summer” by USA Today and Rolling Stone said the band “has what it takes for the long haul.” They have also performed at such festivals as Stagecoach: California’s Country Festival in Indio, CA and Bonnaroo in Tennessee.
Their album was given 4½ stars by Glide.com, which noted, “Truth and Salvage is an explosion of Americana and sweaty Rock-n-Roll that comes off more like a greatest hits album than a debut…set to become an instant classic.”
More accolades have poured in. “The group mixes equal parts Americana, country, folk and bluegrass, as well as The Band- and CSNY-like four-part harmonies,” noted Randy Ray of Relix (August 2010). Elsewhere, Lee Zimmerman of Blurt-online.com said, “Upbeat and infectious at practically every turn, it brings to mind the strains of classic country rock once borne by the likes of Poco, the Flying Burrito Brothers, the New Riders of the Purple Sage and their like-minded Southern California brethren…With a sound that’s both rustic and rollicking, it strikes a marked contrast to the low lit, downtrodden approach purveyed by many of their contemporaries these days (9/1/10).”
