VAULT INTO TOP 10 ON BILLBOARD’S MODERN ROCK TRACK CHART, WHILE CD ‘NASTY LITTLE THOUGHTS’ BREAKS INTO THE TOP 100 OF BILLBOARD’S POP ALBUMs CHART AMID SOLD-OUT CLUB DATES
FOLLOW-UP SINGLE “LETTERS” OUT EARLY MARCH
As they criss-cross the country on a sold-out club tour, STROKE 9 are quickly building on the momentum of their debut album NASTY LITTLE THOUGHTS (Cherry/Universal Records). Having topped the 200,000 mark in sales, the album is bulleted this week at #94 on Billboard’s Top 200 Album chart, while the first single “Little Black Backpack” is currently bulleted at #6 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Track chart and #4 on Radio & Record’s Alternative Top 50 chart. Meanwhile, Nasty Little Thoughts has been nominated for Outstanding Debut Album at this year’s Tower Records California Music Awards set to take place in April.
“‘Little Black Backpack’…screams for heavy radio rotation while taking trendies to task with its Nineties brand of straight-ahead pop rock,” said Rolling Stone. The song–a disarming blend of shimmering guitars, bright harmonies and biting satirical lyrics–has been a major force at alternative and pop radio since its release last fall, contributing to the band’s success on the road. After kicking off a U.S. tour earlier this month, the group–LUKE ESTERKYN (vocals, guitars), JOHN MCDERMOTT (guitars, vocals), GREG GUELDNER (bass) and ERIC STOCK (drums)–have already played to sell-out crowds in cities including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle. STROKE 9 will continue to bring their brand of “jangly guitars, strong hooks, and catchy pop melodies” (Guitar magazine) to fans throughout the year.
Look for STROKE 9 to release the new single and video for “Letters,” the follow-up to “Little Black Backpack,” in March. The song was produced by former Talking Heads member Jerry Harrison, as were six other tracks on the CD, while the balance was handled by Rupert Hine.
