Buzzed-about indie rock ‘n roll band VISTA KICKS are offering the first taste of music from their upcoming album with the release of the double-single “Million Dollar Seller Pt1/Pt2” and “Numbers” (click here to listen via Spotify or here on Soundcloud). The new tracks were first released on Friday, June 1 and will appear on the Los Angeles-based band’s sophomore full-length album, TWENTY SOMETHING NIGHTMARE, due out Friday, July 13 via their own Little Hook Records.
Glide Magazine first premiered “Million Dollar Seller Pt1/Pt2” and “Numbers” on May 31 calling the songs a “bombastic rock and roll double dose…both of which embody this band’s huge rock and roll sound.” For “Million Dollar Seller,” the band explained to Glide Magazine, “We wanted something that would sound like Hannibal crossing the alps on war elephants, but since elephants are notoriously late to rehearsal, we distorted a saxophone and a bari sax and mixed it with a D.I. Guitar and Bass to make the introduction sound epic.”
In a bold move that’s in line with the band’s free spirit, VISTA KICKS have also decided to release the new double-single into the public domain, making the songs available without a copyright so anyone can use them without needing to pay a fee to the band. The band’s Derek Thomas told FORBES.com, “We’re trying it out. It’s a social experiment for us…we really believe in it. We believe in the power of public domain.” Thomas adds: “I think the world misses out on a lot of really awesome art that could’ve been made if artists weren’t in the circumstance of compromising their beliefs for money or for investment.”
For the upcoming 18-track album, co-produced by the quartet–Thomas (vocals), Sam Plecker (guitar/vocals), Trevor Sutton (bass), and Nolan Le Vine (drums)–VISTA KICKS once again amplifies the scope of their signature style as they maintain the edge that made them, “The Originators of Booty Shaking Rock N’ Roll,” proving to be a seamless follow-up to 2017’s well-received Booty Shakers Ball album.
TWENTY SOMETHING NIGHTMARE kicks off with the slick strut and wild riffing of opener “Million Dollar Seller,” shuffling between a staunch groove and bluesy bombast. The rustle and bustle of “Victim Of The Times” drips into the searing melodies of “Live, You’re Gonna Die,“ which culminates on the carpe diem command, “You’ve got to live, because you’re gonna die.” The clean guitar of “I Can’t Think Of Anybody But U” transmits a lovelorn plea that’s as impassioned as it is infectious. Everything culminates on the epic title track “Twenty Something Nightmare,“ which sails from stark and sparse delivery into a resounding finale of robust energy befitting of their reputation. Most significantly, these 18 anthems etch out a raw, relatable, and real picture of millennial life.
The band is currently asking for contributions to their Vista “Kick” Starter campaign to help support the marketing efforts of the new album, aiding with content creation such as music videos. Click here to view the unique packages created for the campaign and help the band reach their goal.
2018 is shaping up to be a breakout year for VISTA KICKS, which began with a sold-out headlining show at The Troubadour in February to kick off their critically-acclaimed “Booty Shakers Ball Tour,” and multiple appearances at SXSW. Next, the band is set to headline the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles on Thursday, September 20 (tickets available via AXS.com here), following a performance at KAABOO Del Mar and a handful of other headlining dates in June across California. Recent acclaim has come courtesy of Buzzbands.LA, Pancakes & Whiskey, Pure Grain Audio, Blurred Culture and more, in addition to delivering a powerhouse performance on Billboard Live in early March.

About VISTA KICKS:
VISTA KICKS–four lifelong friends from Northern California who grew up obsessed with the sounds of AC/DC, The Beatles, Black Sabbath, The Bee Gees and Michael Jackson–began playing anywhere and everywhere with a stage by the age of 16, taking over supper clubs, parties, and backyard barbecues. After their single “Make It Real” cracked 2 million Spotify streams, they made a collective decision to forego college and trade their small Sacramento suburb for Hollywood, forming VISTA KICKS in late 2015.
Living together in a cramped one-bedroom apartment, the quartet–Derek Thomas (vocals), Sam Plecker (guitar/vocals), Trevor Sutton (bass), and Nolan Le Vine (drums)–quietly ignited a buzz throughout L.A. and beyond with two full U.S. tours under their belts. Within a year, the band’s independent 2016 Chasing Waves EP and additional singles generated over 5 million cumulative Spotify streams and 3.2 million YouTube views. However, everything set the stage for the release of their 2017 full-length debut, BOOTY SHAKERS BALL-self-produced by the musicians themselves and engineered by their guitar player and vocalist Sam Plecker. Best described as a smoked-out collaboration between James Brown and Jimmy Page, it bridges eras.
