THE VOODOO EXPERIENCE
PRESENTED BY STEPHEN REHAGE
EXPANDS ITS BILL WITH A LOCAL FAVORITE
AND A HARD ROCKING SOUTHERN QUARTET
FOR ANNUAL HALLOWEEN WEEKEND MUSICAL CELEBRATION:
OCTOBER 28, 29 AND 30 IN
NEW ORLEANS CITY PARK
From traditional New Orleans sounds to Southern metal, the line-up for 2011’s THE VOODOO EXPERIENCE PRESENTED BY STEPHEN REHAGE continues to reinforce its commitment to support music of all genres with the latest additions of local favorites The Original Meters and Atlanta metal rockers Mastodon.
The Original Meters last graced the Voodoo stage in 2006–in a unique one-time collaboration with 2006 headliners the Red Hot Chili Peppers. This performance marks a special hometown reunion for the influential group, who due to their other solo and group commitments, rarely have the opportunity to perform together. Rolling Stone.com (8/9/11) recently said of the band, “The operative word is ‘Original’…every opportunity to see them should be seized. Simply put, they still crackle with vitality, locking into those elegant grooves and slow, swaggering rhythms…these funk legends are certain to be in top shape.”
The addition of Mastodon follows VOODOO’s ongoing support of rock (Nine Inch Nails in 2005 and 2008, KISS in 2009 and Ozzy Osbourne in 2010) and comes as the Georgia band prepare for the release of their fifth album The Hunter. As Paste.com (8-5-11) recently reported, “Mastodon have created a video game to accompany their upcoming LP, The Hunter…the band have announced that fans will have the option to buy the album with ‘an exciting interactive 3D experience known as Augmented Reality.’ Apparently one of the game’s features uses a computer camera to turn the user into the ridiculously brutal sculpture on the album cover.” Mastodon guitarist-vocalist Brent Hinds recently told Rollingstone.com that, “Kids are going to get in trouble to this album. They’re going to break speakers, pop springs on their beds and get drunk and nude in public.”
2011’s THE VOODOO EXPERIENCE PRESENTED BY STEPHEN REHAGE in New Orleans’ City Park, set for Friday, October 28, Saturday, October 29 and Sunday, October 30, will feature its traditionally eclectic line-up including a variety of exclusive U.S. festival appearances from Soundgarden and Blink-182; performances from the recently reunited Raconteurs, the original members of X, plus Snoop Dogg, TV On The Radio, Fatboy Slim, Girl Talk and many more.
